Planning our preliminary piece;
For our preliminary piece we decided to film a minute video of Miley Cyrus 'Party in the USA' which was released back in the summer of 2009. The song is a dance hip-hop song, so we thought it would be fun to film our preliminary piece to this song- as it is a fun summer tune and we could have some fun.
Miley Cyrus' stars in the video, there is a wide variety of different clips and camera angles put together to create the music video.

analysing a music video;
as part of my research I decided to analysis a film music video, I chose Katy Perry- California Gurls, which was released in May 2010. The song received many rewards. in 2012 the song won a Grammy for a nomination of 'Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals' and billboard later ranked the song as number one on the special 'The 30 Summer Songs Of All Time' listing. The song was on the Billboard top 100 for six consecutive weeks.

The song was on the Billboard top 100 for six consecutive weeks.
The first image when the music video starts shows an candy box, giving the audience an idea of how the music video will play- It shows the two main singers- Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg, the writing on the box 'Candyfornia' can be interpreted by 'California', which is linked to the album title 'Teenage Dream'. The background of the image shows the pink clouds- which may represent candy floss. The idea behind the music video shows a dream fantasy world.
The second key frame shows Katy Perry walking through a 'fantasy wonderland'- her facial expression shows her happiness towards this fantasy life. In the back ground shows all candy and sweets- which helps to create this extraordinary life she appears to have found. The colours used are all pastels and pale colours- which suggests happiness and peace within this place.
The Third key frame shows Snoop Dogg- a rapper who appears in the song, looking down on this magical land that Katy appears to have found.
The fourth key frame shows Katy Perry dancing around, with an unusual, quirky outfit on, which is filled with bright colours and quirky designs, the outfit co insides with the theme of the song, creating happy feelings for the watcher.
The fifth key frame shows Katy Perry and extra dancers performing a dance routine, wearing 'cute' little outfits which again co insides with the theme of the song- showing candy and happiness as an aim for the video was create a fantasy feeling, with the clear blue skies and pink 'candy floss' clouds.
this key frame shows Snoop Dogg, who is featured in the song as an additional singer, who raps a verse in the song. He appears in this clip when he is singing, which makes it easier for the audience to identify him. He appears to be in the theme of the music video; wearing a chocolate and sweet coloured suit. With the backdrop being surrounded by lollipops and candy. Although in comparison to Katy Perry's video clip, it may suggest that Snoop Dogg isn't involved in the 'California dream' suggest it may be the girls dream.
this key frame shows Katy Perry, in another different, unique outfit, surrounded by other pretty girls, suggesting these are the 'California Girls' which is what the song is all about. The backdrop, being on the beach may suggest they are trying to show the life of living in California, with all the candy being in the background- which has been continued throughout the whole music video.
This is one of the last key frames in the video- it shows four of the California girls, laying on the beach, with a symbol of 'CA' written in a love heart, which symbolise the idea of the song. With Snoop Dogg buried in the sand- which gives the impression that the girls have authority over the boys.
Linking 'California Gurls' to Goodwin's Theory.
Katy Perry's 'California Girls' was extremely successful being a number one single, as well as the album being a top seller, which went on to sell more than 6 million copies worldwide. Winning Katy Perry seven Grammy Awards throughout the years- This is good recognition of the record label- Capitol Records. Which will have expected high demands from the album.
The Genre of Katy Perry's album is mostly pop songs- with influences from other genres such as disco, funk, rock and hip hop. This will attract a wide audience, as Katy Perry's music does appeal to most ages of people- as she is unique quirky and different all in a positive way.
It is also possible for people to link to Katy Perry from her music lyrics, which is an important factor to consider when composing and creating an album.
The Music video links extremely well to the lyrics, it is a unique music video which hasn't been created and shown in that way before- It shows Katy Perry in an unusual, fun, and quirky manor which will attract her a wide audience as people can relate back to her through her lyrics and vdeos.

applying the theory to a CD album cover.
Katy Perry; Teenage Dream. The Complete Confection.
Katy Perry; Teenage Dream. The Complete Confection.
Katy Perry's album artwork stands out in many ways, it is recognisable as her album for the way she is portrayed on the front, right in the middle of the album cover- it draws the attention of the listener making the album recognisable as her work. As this albums follows on from her Teenage dream album; The pastel coloured sweets in the background; the lolly pops and ice cream co inside with the 'Complete Confection' title. the white background to the cover may suggest Katy Perry's purity.
